Phil Maffettone
Sr Machine Learning Scientist II
Phil is a scientist with over a decade of experience applying AI to the physical and biomedical sciences. He built the brain on the world's first mobile robotic scientist at the Materials Innovation Factory (Liverpool), prior to integrating distributed autonomous experiments across scientific user facilities (Brookhaven National Lab). An early member of BigHat's ML team, Phil took some time away to design the software architecture for the next generation of beamlines at the National Synchrotron Light Source II. He earned his DPhil from Oxford (Marshall Scholar) developing models of disordered matter, and BS in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the University at Buffalo.
